What is PRSA?

The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), headquartered in New York City, is the world's largest professional organization for public relations practitioners. The Society's almost 20,000 members represent business and industry, counseling firms, government, associations, hospitals, schools, professional services firms and nonprofit organizations.

Since it was chartered in 1948, PRSA has continued to provide a forum for addressing issues affecting the profession, and the resources for promoting the highest professional standards. It offers unequalled opportunities for improvement of skills and advancement of knowledge, as well as for exchange of information and experiences with other public relations professionals. The Society also firmly believes that professional integrity is based on sound and ethical practice. Members of PRSA adhere to a Code of Professional Standards for the Practice of Public Relations.

PRSA has 114 chapters throughout the United States, grouped into ten geographical districts. Chapter representatives in each district elect a district chair, who serves as a link among chapters, Board of Directors and staff.

What is the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of PRSA?

The Central Pennsylvania Chapter of PRSA is the premier organization for professionals in Pennsylvania's prosperous central region. Established in 1986, the chapter today has more than 100 members, practicing public relations in a broad range of settings -- from associations and nonprofits to Fortune 500 firms, solo practices and public relations firms.

Many members live and work in the Harrisburg-York-Lancaster area, but the chapter draws membership from State College, Shippensburg, Scranton, Reading and other communities in the region.

The Central Pennsylvania Chapter has established a record of consistently high quality programming for its members, including monthly luncheon programs, professional development seminars, college and university student mentoring programs, and coordinated activities with other communications-oriented professional organizations in the region. The chapter is also known for the high quality of its membership -- members have actively sought out career enhancement opportunities through the chapter, including professional accreditation. The Central Pennsylvania Chapter has developed a consistent, organized program to help members achieve PRSA's Accreditation in Public Relations (APR).
